Digital Imaging Project Earns Honor for Several Board Offices Columbia, SC - A group effort, begun in 2008, involving several Board offices has led to significant recognition for the agency. The Board’s Office of General Counsel received an honorable mention from the SC Information Technology Directors Association for its innovative work on a comprehensive imaging project for the Office of General Counsel. The Insurance Reserve Fund and the Division of State Information Technology, along with personnel from contractor Team IA, contributed to this team effort to construct and implement a searchable imaging system. Unlike other imaging systems in use at the Board, the Office of General Counsel will not only be able to convert its files to electronic form from paper form, but attorneys will be able to word search the imaged case files and research projects to expeditiously find materials from old cases and previous research. This word search innovation makes the General Counsel’s imaging system a far more efficient and useful resource for Board attorneys. In the next phase of the project, attorneys in outlying offices, such as at DSIT or the Retirement Systems, will be able to access the searchable imaging system via the web. This will enable all attorneys, even in remote locations, to be able to share information stored in the OGC database. Renee Larsen, Angela Croft, Derrick McFarland, Peggy Winfrey and Steve Van Camp from the Office of General Counsel all worked on this project, which involves the ongoing scanning and indexing of thousands of pages of litigation files and research files into the electronic imaging system. Tom Lucht, Randy Byars, Elaina Julian, Beth Gunter, Mike Allinger, Joy Gunter and Dianne Poston also played a major role in this project. The evaluation panel for the SC Information Technology Directors Association consisted of one SCITDA agency member, one SCITDA corporate member, and three non-members selected as unbiased technology professionals. A number of favorable comments were recorded about their work on the project by the panel. See the article at: http://www.imakenews.com/bcb/e_article001550218.cfm?x=bg5VCvC,bbHqFBsh
